RE: Circuit City and Campers

Circuit City filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy (reorganization) and with that decided to close the underperforming stores in their company only...
Personally I am mixed if I would buy something from someone in Ch. 13 bankruptcy because I would want to be sure they would be there should I ever need to return it within a reasonable time...not sure what the whole story is with Circuit Story and what the future plans are but in my case I'm still mixed...only you can decide what to do

RE: Designer 35RLTS and Jayco Talk...Thanks Frank!!

Guess I had a dealer I could trust these days to service our Designer. As most of you know our dealer sold out to a larger dealer and due to my past dealings with this larger dealer I have no trust in their service department (or the whole company for that matter)...may have to take it to a local mechanic who can do the yearly preventative maintenance on the wheel bearings

RE: Install Onan 5500

When we picked up our Jayco designer in March we had the Onan 5500 gas generator already installed in it complete with a 14 gallon gas tank...would of preferred a diesel generator but the gas generator works just fine for us...we fill up the generator gas tank the same time we fill up the diesel in the truck and do carry an extra 5 gallons of gas and an extra 5 gallons of diesel when we travel long distances...

NO....BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR from Michigan
For those of us that this applies to...make sure to exercise your built-in generators at least once a month for a minimum of 1-hour under 1/2 load...unfortunately for us this is all the thrill we have with the Designer during winter until Spring comes...:(

RE: Where do you invest your money?

As for the tiering of the investments you don't have to follow the 1-year, 2-year, 3-year, 4-year, 5-year plan you can most certianly change that to 6-month, 12-month, 18-month, 24-month, 30-month plan or whatever suits your individual financial needs...
We like ING because with them you have to have a checking account at a brick-and-mortar bank so money can be transferred back and forth if needed...wherever you decide to invest your money in CD's make sure they pay your interest on a monthly basis (as opposed to quarterly or annually) since you will earn more interest that way...only you can decide where it is best to invest your savings

RE: Where do you invest your money?

Have you tried ING Direct...ING DIRECT
Might I suggest if you are investing in CD's is to "tier" your investments which means dividing the total amount invested by 5 and put an equal amount in a 1-year, 2-year, 3-year, 4-year, and 5-year CD's, thereby each year you have a CD that is maturing. As each CD matures and you find yourself not needing the money just reinvest it in a 5-year CD and keep it going...

RE: Just got a call - they damaged our new truck in transit!

Good to see you got your money back...
As for the best diesel out there only you can decide which is best for you...test ride all three and decide from there...
As for us we have 2005 Chevy 1-ton dually diesel with an Allison transmission...if we ever get another truck it would be a GM soley because of the Allison transmission..

RE: adding generator prep to new unit?

When we got our new Designer in March of this year I made sure it had a built-in generator for the convenience. We had carried around 2 Honda's for close to 3 years and the built-in generator is so much more handy.
As for noise? No it is not loud at all and we have slept with it on all night to have the AC running. Very nice to get up, push a button and go back to sleep...one of the best options we have and wouldn't be without it...
Get the generator prep done now if you plan on putting in a built-in generator in the future...much easier now than it is after the RV is built

RE: Heating Imbalance on Open Range

Same problem alot of us had on the 2008 Jayco Designer 35RLTS fifth wheels we had...
What Jayco did is that they rerouted there air flow lines in the fiver...previously they had 2 lines to the front of the fiver and 2 lines to the rear of the fiver...now they have 3 lines running to the rear (kitchen, bedroom) and one line running to the front (bathroon, bedroom)...

RE: Reusing the pink stuff.

I'm with M GO BLUE.
Plus, what's the chance of putting unhealthy contaminates back into your system when you re-use the stuff. I don't use it here, but if I did, I don't think I'd skimp on what goes into my water lines. After all, that water goes in my food and in my mouth.
So you drink the pink stuff? The only contaminates I would reintroduce into the system is the pink stuff plus the residual water I just drained.
I also see that those who object didn't see the big grin about being cheap. Cheap I am not. I could just blow the lines and not use any AF but I chose not to do that because I fell better flushing the lines with AF.
M GO BLUE missed the part about testing the AF before I reused it.
If you naysayers look at my sig there is a quote. The other quote that comes to mind is a small prayer. I use it often "Lord, please protect me from those who would protect me from myself"
Let's say you have a $20,000 - $30,000 RV and you're worried about saving on the cost of 3 gallons of AF?
Why test it? (as I read) Will take you longer to test it as it does to buy new AF...BUT LIKE I SAID ABOVE TO EACH HIS OWN

RE: Reusing the pink stuff.

Ok...about $3.50 gallon and you use probably 2-3 gallons so we're talking about $8.75 in antifreeze...also consider the used AF may or may not be diluted with water...also consider how much you paid for your RV...finally consider how much it would cost to replace a busted water line IF the used AF you put back in the lines was diluted with water?
Sorry I'll spend the extra money to buy new AF and not have to worry...but to each his own

RE: Small 5th wheels- new models?

Never have been a fan of any 1/2 tin truck towing any fifth wheel...the pin weights of most of the fifth wheels make towing it with a 1/2 ton truck unadvisable but I'm sure some will differ...

RE: Garmin Nuvi 205 On Sale @ BestBuy

The wider screen is very nice (4.3" vs. 3.5") but as most everyone else has stated the voice actuated talking is a must so you can keep your eyes on the road...it tells you where to turn, what direction to turn and will also say the street names....

RE: Nuvi 660 charger cord question

I recently had the same problem...emailed Garmin and instructed me to send the cord to them for repair...to my surprise they sent me a completely new power cord...
BTW...hopefully they still have some in stock even though they have discontinued the particular Nuvi (among many others)...

RE: Full Timer Financing

The ONLY things that should be considered when applying for a loan is your credit score (FICO), collateral, and repayment ability. Whatever else you own or do not own should not even be a consideration unless they want to know past history of financing a home, car, etc. but all this info would be on the credit report...
Give your local credit unions a try as they loads of money to lend...you might be surprised!Banks, Credit Unions, etc. generally follow the 5 C's5 C's of credit
Definition
The five key elements a borrower should have to obtain credit: character (integrity), capacity (sufficient cash flow to service the obligation), capital (net worth), collateral (assets to secure the debt), and conditions (of the borrower and the overall economy). In today's financial situation, the effect of the conditions may override all other considerations.
Your best bet is dealing with a lender that you have a long and excellent track record with.
Wow...how about that...just what I said above

Among the many other suggestions of keeping warm one other thing that works well is wearing a hat to bed since most of the heat from yourself escapes through there...you might be surprised how well it works...flannel sheets help also
